Clinical Pathological Correlations > Interstitial Lung Disease

A 58 year old male presented with slowly progressive shortness of breath for about nine months duration. Chest X-rays showed this pattern of bilateral interstitial disease . . .

An open biopsy of the left lower lobe was performed and this histological pattern was observed on a Trichrome-stained section. These changes preferentially involved sub-pleural and periseptal parenchyma, and inspection at higher magnification revealed scattered fibroblastic foci.
