Research
| | My major interest is on squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck and its variants.
1) Oropharyngeal carcinoma. I study human papilloma virus (HPV)-related oropharyngeal carcinomas, specifically their immunohistochemical characteristics, molecular characteristics, and morphology. We look at how all of these features correlate with tumor behavior and patient outcome. I also study variants of squamous carcinoma such as basaloid, undifferentiated, etc., and their relationship with HPV.
2) Perineural invasion. I study both its mechanisms and determinants with the hope of identifying novel markers for both diagnostic, treatment, and prognostic uses.
3) Laryngeal carcinoma. I am early into a study of high stage tumors to investigate markers of treatment response to either primary radiation or surgery.
I also have other projects studying high grade neuroendocrine carcinomas and frozen section methods/improvement. Finally, I also collaborate with several members of the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery and of Radiation Oncology on other aspects of head and neck pathology, radiology, and tumor biology. |
